Radiator Cap Service Video
The radiator cap is a pressure-control part with an important job. It seals the cooling system, holds pressure, and helps coolant absorb engine heat without boiling, too. A radiator cap fails when its spring or sealing surfaces can no longer maintain the pressure specified for the cooling system. A weak cap may let coolant escape early, while a stuck cap can trap excessive pressure and strain hoses or the radiator.
The cap also manages coolant movement between the radiator and overflow reservoir. As pressure rises, its valve allows excess coolant into the reservoir. When the engine cools, a second valve draws that coolant back into the system.
Hot, muggy Alvin summers increase cooling-system demand because the engine and A/C must shed more heat. If the cap cannot hold pressure, coolant may boil at a lower temperature, raising the risk of overheating during traffic or long drives.
That matters for sedans, crossover SUVs, and pickup trucks making trips across Brazoria County. Stop-and-go travel on Highway 35, State Highway 6, or FM 517 can keep temperatures high while airflow through the radiator drops.
Warning signs include coolant around the cap, a collapsed hose, repeated overflow, low coolant, or a rising temperature gauge. Genesis Auto Repair can test the cap and inspect the cooling system before recommending parts.
Drivers from Pearland, Manvel, and Friendswood can review our radiator replacement service for related concerns. You can also visit an auto service near Highway 35 for help in Alvin.
Never remove a radiator cap while the engine is hot because pressurized coolant can cause severe burns. Call Genesis Auto Repair at (281) 968-7411 today for testing before a cap problem leads to serious overheating.
